Three Living Traditions of Madhya Pradesh Receive National Heritage Recognition
Madhya Pradesh further strengthened its reputation as a custodian of India’s living cultural heritage with the inclusion of the Maihar Band, the Agaria tribal iron-smelting tradition and Nimari cuisine in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage maintained by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The inscription celebrates the state’s rich musical traditions, indigenous knowledge systems and distinctive culinary heritage while opening new avenues for cultural preservation, community empowerment and experiential tourism. It also marks an important step towards potential future inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
