The 11-day event, attended by over 2000 delegates from 195 countries, focused on nominating new sites for the UNESCO World Heritage List besides mapping new conservation efforts. Madhya Pradesh is making all efforts to get its 11 UNESCO tentative heritage sites included in the World Heritage List. The state, home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Khajuraho, Bhimbetka, and Sanchi Stupa, is working to secure World Heritage status for sites like Gwalior Fort, Bhojeshwar Mahadev Temple, and Satpura Tiger Reserve. |
![]() Madhya Pradesh to develop pilgrimage sites linked to Lord Ram and Lord Krishna In a bid to spruce religious tourism, Madhya Pradesh will make concrete efforts to develop places linked with Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. During a review meeting of the Culture and Tourism Department, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had directed the construction of welcome gates dedicated to these deities at the entry points of Bhopal. The government plans to identify the places linked to Lord Ram and Lord Krishna and transform them into religious destinations. Plans are afoot to construct welcome gates dedicated to Raja Bhoj and Vikramaditya at the state boundaries to promote the state’s cultural and religious heritage. | ![]() Ujjain, known as Mahakal Nagri, celebrated the first Shahi Sawari of Lord Mahakal on July 22, 2024 (Monday), marking the first Shravan Somwar of the year. The grand procession began on July 21 with Lord Mahakaleshwar blessing devotees in the form of Shri Manimahesh. The procession commenced with a ritualistic puja at the Sabha Mandap of the Mahakal Temple. Seated in a palanquin, the deity embarked on a city tour and was finallyimmersed at the Ramghat. Traditional bhajan groups and drum troupes were a part of the procession. Tribal artists from the Madhya Pradesh Culture Council, including the tribal Bhagoria dancers participated in the event. |

Sakhi Squads boost women tourist footfall in Indore Over 300 trained women, part of the new “Sakhi Squads,” have taken up various kind of hospitality roles at the tourist locations in Indore to boost safety and increase the women tourist footfall. More than 330 Sakhis from the remote areas of Indore are assisting tourists at Patalpani, Choral, Indore, and Omkareshwar and bolstering the local employment opportunities. The “Safe Tourism Destination for Women” project aims to create women-friendly tourist destinations and increase the number of women travellers in the state. So far, over 7,500 women have been trained for 48 job roles in eight sectors, out of the targeted 10,000. |
